AboitizPower has wrapped up 2024 on a high note, energizing its groundbreaking 173-megawatt peak (MWp) Calatrava Solar Project in Negros Occidental.

This latest addition marks the company’s fifth solar power facility and its largest solar capacity to date, a bold step closer to its goal of reaching 4,600 MW of renewable energy in its portfolio by 2030.

Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI), the renewable energy arm of AboitizPower, spearheaded the Calatrava project, which exemplifies the company’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions while fostering economic growth in the communities it serves.

“Calatrava is our fifth energized solar facility and the largest capacity thus far in AboitizPower’s growing solar generation portfolio,” said ARI President Jimmy Villaroman.

“It adds more clean energy to the power mix, as well as valuable green jobs to the community.” Villaroman also acknowledged the critical role of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), whose support enabled the energy delivery through the Calatrava substation.

This milestone concludes a banner year for AboitizPower, which energized a total of 512 MW of new capacity in 2024.

Among the other notable achievements are the 159-MWp Laoag Solar and 94-MWp Cayanga-Bugallon Solar power plants in Pangasinan, the 17-MW Tiwi Binary Geothermal Power Plant in Albay, the 24-MW Magat Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Isabela, and the 45-MWp Armenia Solar Project in Tarlac, which went online just last month.

These projects are part of a broader vision for the company, which aims to achieve a balanced generation portfolio of 9,200 MW, with at least 50% of that capacity coming from renewable energy sources by 2030.

AboitizPower currently has over 1,000 MW of disclosed projects, including solar, hydro, geothermal, wind, and energy storage systems.

This forward-thinking strategy aligns with the Philippine government’s target of a 35% renewable energy share in the power generation mix by the same year.

Beyond its energy contributions, the Calatrava Solar Project is a testament to AboitizPower’s higher purpose of uplifting lives and empowering communities. By generating clean energy and providing green jobs, the facility represents the company’s dual commitment to environmental sustainability and socio-economic development.

As one of the country’s largest power producers, AboitizPower continues to lead the way in transforming the energy landscape.

With its steadfast investments in renewable energy assets and a focus on creating a better, greener world, the company is well on its way to redefining power generation in the Philippines.

The Calatrava Solar Project isn’t just a triumph for AboitizPower—it’s a victory for sustainable progress and a brighter, cleaner future for Filipinos.
