Airlines Win as Trump Cans Biden-era Refunds for Flight Disruptions

Airlines scored a victory as the Trump administration canned a Biden-era rule that mandated refunds for certain flight disruptions, Danielle Chemtob reported for Forbes Daily.

The rule required airlines to refund passengers whose flights were canceled or significantly changed, including domestic delays of more than three hours.

But the Transportation Department said in a filing that it did not have the authority to do so, arguing the mandate “would impose significant costs on airlines, and potentially consumers.”

Still, the policy had received support from consumer advocates, who argued that voluntary commitments from airlines do not adequately protect travelers.
