Apple plans to source more than $19 billion worth of chips from the United States this year, reflecting a broader shift in its global supply chain strategy to reduce dependence on China and increase iPhone production in India, Mark Gurman and Vlad Savov reported for Bloomberg News.

CEO Tim Cook discussed Apple’s deepening partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), which is expanding its Arizona operations to include six manufacturing plants.

He also confirmed expectations that Apple will eventually produce the majority of its U.S.-bound iPhones in India.

The move comes amid threats from the Trump administration to impose punitive tariffs on Chinese-made goods. India was mentioned nearly as frequently as China during Apple’s latest post-earnings call, reflecting the country’s growing importance in Apple’s global operations.
