Audi's new electric vehicle series developed in China for the Chinese market will not feature its iconic four-ring logo, according to two people with direct knowledge of the plans, Zhang Yan and Christina Amann reported for Reuters.
The premium marque's decision to do away with the logo is due to "brand image considerations."
The decision by the premium marque, owned by Germany's Volkswagen, is due to "brand image considerations," one of the sources said.
It also reflects the use of automotive architecture co-developed with Chinese partner SAIC and an increased reliance on local suppliers and technologies. Reuters was not able to confirm whether the new series, codenamed "Purple" internally, would have a different logo or simply carry the name "Audi" on the vehicles.
A concept car for the series is set to be unveiled in November, when Audi will also explain the series' "brand story," according to the two sources. A third person briefed on the matter said that nine models are planned by 2030.
