Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has secured a second three-year term, becoming the first leader in 21 years to win consecutive terms, according to the Associated Press (AP).

Addressing supporters in Sydney, Albanese emphasized his government’s focus on uniquely Australian values rather than mirroring foreign leadership models.

“Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way, looking after each other while building for the future,” he said. “We do not seek our inspiration overseas. We find it right here in our values and in our people.”

Albanese’s center-left Labor Party was projected to expand its narrow majority in the 151-seat House of Representatives.

His opponent, conservative Liberal Party leader Peter Dutton—mocked during the campaign as “DOGE-y Dutton” for his embrace of U.S.-style governance—conceded defeat and lost his seat after 24 years in Parliament.

Labor had campaigned on stability and social investment, sharply contrasting with Dutton’s alignment with Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency” model, which critics called chaotic and divisive.
