AZERBAIJAN FORCES BOMBARD STEPANAKERT CITY IN DISPUTED REGION
Azerbaijani forces are again bombarding Stepanakert City, the capital of the Republic of Artsakh, with artillery and missile strikes after the initial barrage on September 27, when Azeri forces started their attacks, the Armemnian news agency ARMENPRESS reported.
Air raid sirens blared and several explosions were heard in the city, with local officials reporting heavy damage and casualties.
Late on October 3, 2020, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported the losses of the attacking Azerbaijan forces as 2,745 soldiers, 123 drones destroyed, 14 helicopters downed, 14 planes destroyed, 355 armored vehicles knocked out and four Smerch missile systems rendered useless.
In a related development, the presidential spokesperson of the Republic of Artsakh, as the Armenian-majority Nagorno-Karabakh region is known, said the Ganja military airport used by the Azeri forces to attack Artsakh’s civilians has been completely destroyed. Vahram Poghosyan said “the Ganja military airport is no more.”
