President Donald Trump faced a wave of bad news even as he attended the funeral of Pope Francis, Bloomberg’s David E. Rovella reported.

On the markets, a dollar index tracked its worst early performance of any U.S. presidency since the Nixon era.
Consumer sentiment in the U.S. plunged to one of the lowest levels on record, and long-term inflation expectations rose to their highest since 1991, largely due to fears over Trump’s escalating tariff policies. Economists now estimate the chance of a Trump-induced recession at nearly 50%.
Polling reflects growing dissatisfaction: a new ABC-Ipsos poll found that 70% of Americans believe tariffs will fuel inflation, while a New York Times average of polls showed Trump's approval rating sliding to 45%.
A majority of respondents to a New York Times/Siena poll also disapproved of Trump’s efforts to expand executive power.
On the markets, a dollar index tracked its worst early performance of any U.S. presidency since the Nixon era. However, Treasuries rallied on hopes that U.S.-China trade tensions might ease, and equities saw some modest gains.
