President Trump said that Attorney General William Barr would depart next week. Barr had in recent weeks fallen out of favor with the president, the New York Times reported early on December 15, 2020, Manila time.

Trump sought to play down their differences, saying in a tweet announcing Mr. Barr’s departure by saying “our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job!” but no one at the Department of Justice believes it.

Still, his resignation allows Barr to avoid any confrontation with the president over his refusal to advance Trump’s efforts to rewrite the election results, and the announcement by Trump that the justice chief is leaving is anti-climactic.

Barr earned Trump’s goat by saying the justice department had not a single fraudulent ballot in the Nov. 3 presidential election, He sealed his fate after Trump learned that Hunter Biden is being investigated for his business dealings with Chinese companies and Barr did not tell him about it.
