President Joe Biden registered his best showing yet in a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult tracking poll of battleground states, even as voters offered withering appraisals of his debate performance amid misplaced panic within his party, Gregory Korte and Mark Niquette reported for Bloomberg News.
The poll also showed Biden narrowed the gap with independent voters, with Trump and Biden being tied at 40%. I Photo: The White House Facebook
Reporting for The Hill, Yash Roy wrote that despite the debate missteps, the survey showed Biden leading Trump in Michigan and Wisconsin. In Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina, he has clawed back and is now within the margin of error.
Trump’s lead is now down to only 2 percentage points across the seven states — 47% to 45%, the closest Biden has been to overtaking Trump since Bloomberg started tracking the seven states last October.
The poll also showed Biden narrowed the gap with independent voters, with Trump and Biden being tied at 40%. In a previous poll, the former president led the incumbent 44% to 36%, which many pollsters doubt as revulsion over Trump’s Project 2025’s threat of violence skyrockets.
Business Insider also reported on the possibility that the so-called debate disaster for Biden has become dated news, like some tempest in a teapot or a storm in a teacup.
Morning Consult US political consultant Eli Yokley wrote that the survey result shows the debate performance did not change the underlying dynamics of the presidential race.
