However, the Biden campaign is rejecting the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), which has managed presidential debates since 1988, according to a letter obtained by Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman of the New York Times.
The letter outlines President Biden's terms for the debates, granting Trump his request for a televised confrontation.
Trump has often depicted Biden as too weak for the presidency and has been vocal about wanting a debate.
In a Truth Social post, Trump promptly agreed to the two dates proposed by the Biden campaign, although it remains uncertain whether he will agree to Biden’s other conditions.
Biden and his advisors are pushing for the debates to be held much earlier than the CPD’s proposed dates to allow voters ample time to see the candidates side by side before early voting begins in September.

They also want the debates to feature only the two main candidates and a moderator, excluding the lively in-person audiences that Trump thrives on and excluding participation from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or other independent or third-party candidates.
