US President Donald Trump attacked Democratic rival Joe Biden relentlessly, interrupting him repeatedly and forcing moderator Chris Wallace to tell him if he wanted to change places with him, telling him that he had not following the agreed rules as he sought to hog the mic, Jerrett Renshaw and Steve Holland reported for Reuters.

“I’ve done more in 47 months than you’ve done in 47 years,” Trump asserted in a typical accusation against Biden, adding “China ate your lunch, Joe” on trade without proffering any evidence, questioned Biden’s intelligence and attacked his son, Hunter Biden, and described the longtime centrist Democrat as a “socialist.”

Biden twice described Trump as a “clown,” told him to “shut up,” described him as “Putin’s puppy,” and called him the “worst president” in American history. “Under this president, we’ve become weaker, sicker, far more divided and more violent,” Biden said. He asked Trump to show his tax returns to prove he had paid $38 million in taxes and Trump shut up.

"Though it seems unlikely that Trump scored any points with those voters who were not already in his corner, he succeeded in derailing much of the debate with his frequent interruptions and combative rejoinders to Biden's answers,” said Lara Brown, director of the Graduate School of Political Management at the George Washington University. “Biden appears to have won the night, but it seems unlikely that the polls will register much change," John Fritze, Maureen Groppe and David Jackson of USA TODAY reported.
