A gunman opened fire in a busy New York City office building on Monday, killing three people before turning the gun on himself. Mayor Eric Adams called it “another senseless act of gun violence,” Brian Swint reported for Barron’s Daily.

Among the victims were an executive at Blackstone, the global asset manager, and an employee of the National Football League (NFL).
Both firms have offices in the building on Park Avenue, as does KPMG, the accounting firm, The Wall Street Journal reported.
A New York City police officer was also killed, and a fifth person was shot and remains in critical condition. Other Blackstone employees are being treated in the hospital.
The gunman drove across the country over the past few days and had a history of mental illness, according to the Journal, citing police.
He began shooting in the lobby and proceeded to the offices of Rudin Management, a real estate firm, where he killed another person before fatally shooting himself in the chest.
The crime is likely to raise concerns about violence targeting corporate executives. The spree took place just a few blocks from where UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson was shot dead last year.
