Brazil Weighs Response To U.S. Sanctions

Brazil is considering potential retaliatory measures in response to new U.S. sanctions, including suspending the licensing of American pharmaceutical patents, according to reports in Brazilian media.

The government has denied speculation that it may impose limits on the repatriation of U.S. dividends, Bloomberg News reported.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s administration is escalating internal discussions following the revocation of a Brazilian judge’s U.S. visa by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The move came after Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered a raid on former President Jair Bolsonaro’s residence ahead of his trial for allegedly attempting to stage a coup to remain in power.
The Brazilian Supreme Court’s firm response is seen as a signal that the country will not bow to pressure from Washington.
Despite rising tensions, both governments are expected to continue diplomatic negotiations, though Brazilian assets remain vulnerable amid Trump’s looming threat of 50% tariffs.
