Governor Daniel Fernando has formed an airport committee that will tackle plans, proposals, and opinions about the construction of the international airport project in a 2,500-hectare coastal property in Bulakan town in this province.

The PHP735-billion project was proposed by San Miguel Corporation, and will be constructed by San Miguel Aerocity Inc. that will commence before the end of 2020.

In a phone interview on Sunday, Fernando said the committee will be headed by Pandi Mayor Enrico Roque while the members are composed of local chief executives from the towns of Guiguinto, Bocaue, Bulakan, Obando, Santa Maria, Balagtas and Malolos City.

"I created this team because I want to know their (mayors) proposals and plans, I need their opinions and suggestions and additional ideas before the project construction begins," said Fernando, who is the overall chairperson of the committee.

The Bulacan Airport Committee's counterpart will be the Provincial Development Council (PDC) and Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO).

"Layunin din po nito ay pag-aralan ang mga advantage and disadvantage ng proyekto para sa kapakanan ng mga Bulakenyo. Maiiwasan din po dito ang magamit ang airport project ng mga mapagsamantalang tao (The creation of the committee also aims to study the advantages and disadvantages of the project for the welfare of the Bulakenyos. This will also prevent the airport from being exploited by some of people)," Fernando said.

Last August, a bill seeking to establish the Bulacan Airport City Special Economic Zone and Freeport (Bulacan Ecozone) was approved by the House of Representatives.

The approved House Bill  7575 also seeks for the establishment of the Bulacan Ecozone adjacent to the proposed international airport.

To be known as the Bulacan International Airport, it will help decongest Ninoy Aquino International Airport and is a part of the flagship infrastructure program of the Duterte administration, commonly known as "Build, Build, Build."

The proposed modern airport  has a design capacity of 200 million passengers per year, consisting of four runways and all aviation-related facilities.
