Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that Canada will recognize a Palestinian state unless Israel agrees to a cease-fire in Gaza.

Canada’s formal recognition is scheduled for September, joining similar moves by Britain and France, The New York Times reported.
Carney stated that recognition is contingent on several commitments from the Palestinian Authority, including the exclusion of Hamas from any government, the return of hostages to Israel, and the holding of elections next year.
France’s recognition is set to proceed regardless of Israeli actions. Britain, meanwhile, has made its recognition conditional upon Israel agreeing to a cease-fire.
