Carney's Nobel Odds Exceed Trump's in Some Prediction Markets

President Donald Trump's chances of winning the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize appear limited in prediction markets, with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney among the names being considered by traders and political observers ahead of the announcement.

Prediction-market prices can change rapidly and should not be treated as formal assessments by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Polymarket's Nobel Peace Prize market currently lists Carney among the potential individual winners, although the market places him at roughly 1% at the time of checking.
The market's leading contenders include Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms and several other individuals and organizations.
Carney has attracted attention as a possible candidate because of his advocacy for multilateral cooperation and his increasingly prominent role in international affairs.
The Associated Press (AP) has reported that his confrontation with Trump and his advocacy for cooperation among middle powers have contributed to speculation about his Nobel prospects.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and has cited his administration's diplomatic and military actions as evidence of his peace efforts.
However, the ongoing US involvement in the conflict with Iran has complicated his prospects, according to analysts cited in recent reporting.
Trump did not win the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her work promoting democratic rights and seeking a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
In January 2026, Machado presented Trump with her physical Nobel medal during a meeting at the White House.
The gesture did not transfer the Nobel Peace Prize itself. The Nobel distinction is non-transferable, and Machado remains the 2025 laureate.
Trump's administration also has been involved in major military operations in 2026. US forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in January, according to Reuters and other reports, while the United States and Israel launched major military operations against Iran in February.
The conflict subsequently expanded and remains unresolved.
The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on Oct. 9. Until then, prediction-market odds remain speculative and can shift as traders react to new developments.
