Century Pacific Makes Waves With Plant-Based Seafood Alternatives

Century Pacific Food, Inc. (PSE:CNPF), one of the Philippines' major food and beverage companies, has introduced unMEAT Fish-free Tuna, its latest innovation in plant-based alternatives.

CNPF created ‘unMEAT’ in 2020 in response to the growing consumer preference for healthier, better-for-you, and better-for-the-planet food options. This was followed with an institutional rollout domestically through Shakey’s Pizza, which the CNPF immediately followed up with a retail launch across major supermarkets nationwide.

In order to double down on its plant-based meat alternatives business, CNPF has been aggressively expanding the 'unMEAT' portfolio.

The business also launched its shelf-stable unMEAT luncheon meat line and unCHEESE, a plant-based dairy replacement, in 2021. A specialized breakfast range was offered to the Philippine domestic market earlier this year.

In a statement, CNPF's Chief Operating Officer, Greg Banzon, said, “unMEAT Fish-free Tuna is a gamechanger. Much of the focus in the industry has been on meat alternatives. On the other hand, seafood alternatives remain a wide-open space where we see pent up demand from consumers looking for healthier and more sustainable options at an accessible price.”

CNPF harnessed its strength in developing leading tuna products with the introduction of innovative unMEAT Fish-free Tuna. The innovation has a taste, texture, and look that is undoubtedly similar to tuna yet is free of seafood. It is created entirely of plant-based components, including non-GMO soy, natural oils, and flavors.

According to a recent survey done in the United States by a third-party market research agency, unMEAT Fish-free Tuna significantly outperforms the country's leading plant-based tuna brands.

In terms of flavor, seven out of ten respondents believe unMEAT Fish-free Tuna is significantly superior to other brands. In terms of appearance and texture, they believe it most closely resembles tuna.

“unMEAT has been actively participating in international expos and roadshows. This new product has been drumming up much excitement with retailers all over the world who have tried our samples. We’re currently working on increasing its retail footprint in key markets abroad,” added Banzon.
