Luckin Coffee, China’s largest coffee chain and a direct competitor to Starbucks, opened its first two U.S. locations in New York City, Jordan Valinsky reported for CNN.

The chain’s U.S. debut—near NYU in Greenwich Village and in NoMad—marks a major escalation in global coffee competition. Known for its tech-forward model and low prices, Luckin's beverages cost roughly 30% less than Starbucks in China.
Founded in 2017, Luckin caters primarily to young, mobile-first consumers. Its U.S. stores mirror the brand’s minimalist approach: cashless ordering, mobile-only purchases, and a limited selection of pastries.
This could present regulatory issues—cashless-only businesses are banned in New York City, San Francisco, and Philadelphia, as noted by Anthony Robledo for USA Today.
The menu includes familiar favorites like cold brews, matcha lattes, and fruit-infused iced coffees, along with vibrant “Refreshers” that blend coconut milk with fruit juices and foams, Laura He also reported for CNN.
