China has announced it will impose anti-dumping duties as high as 74.9% on imports of POM copolymers—a type of engineering plastic—from the United States, European Union, Japan, and Taiwan, Colleen Howe reported for Reuters.

The move concludes a year-long investigation launched in May 2024, shortly after the U.S. sharply increased tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, semiconductors, and other goods.

POM copolymers, which can partially replace metals like copper and zinc, are widely used in auto parts, electronics, and medical devices.

The highest duties—74.9%—were imposed on U.S. imports. European shipments face 34.5% tariffs.

Japan was hit with 35.5%, except for Asahi Kasei Corp., which received a lower company-specific rate of 24.5%. Taiwan’s general rate was set at 32.6%, but Formosa Plastics and Polyplastics Taiwan received preferential rates of 4% and 3.8%, respectively.

China’s Commerce Ministry had already imposed preliminary deposit-based duties in January, following initial findings that dumping was occurring.
