Global approval of China’s leadership surpassed that of the United States in 2025, marking the widest gap between the two in nearly two decades, according to a Gallup poll.

The survey found China’s median approval rating rose to 36%, while U.S. approval fell to 31%, The Hill reported.
Disapproval ratings remained high for both countries, with U.S. leadership reaching a record 48% disapproval. Both nations recorded negative net approval ratings, with China at -1 and the U.S. at -15.
Gallup noted that China’s relative gains in some countries reflect declining perceptions of the U.S. more than strong enthusiasm for Beijing.
