As one of the world’s largest automotive glass producers—and the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary American Factory—Fuyao Glass is a familiar name in the US.

Now, its founder has warned he is prepared to shut down the company’s American plants if trade friction and tariffs lead to severe losses, Xinyi Wu reported for the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
Responding to questions regarding geopolitical risks at the company’s annual general meeting, Cao Dewang said the company would not engage in loss-making ventures.
“How much in duties you want to impose is your business,” said the billionaire, who turns 80 next month. “If we encounter unreasonable situations, we’ll simply shut down the US factories.”
The company has been sustaining losses due to higher tariffs on imported raw materials.
It also faces rising power costs as gasoline and diesel prices have increased in the US. In addition, some analysts warn that potential disruptions in uranium supply could affect nuclear energy output.
