Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has called on the European Union to suspend its long-standing Association Agreement with Israel, according to an Associated Press (AP) report.

The agreement, in force since 2000, governs trade and cooperation between the EU and Israel. Sánchez said that while Spain has no issue with the Israeli people, governments that violate international law should not maintain such partnerships.
Spain is expected to present a formal proposal at an upcoming EU foreign ministers’ meeting. Sánchez has also been a vocal critic of recent U.S. and Israeli military actions involving Iran.
