Art has long served as a quiet custodian of a nation's memory. At Crowne Plaza Galleria, that memory comes to life through "Gunita," an exhibition marking the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence by showcasing the works of seven Filipino artists whose creations reflect the country's enduring identity, resilience and creative spirit.

Running until Aug. 31, the exhibition offers a visual journey through personal histories, cultural traditions and shared experiences that have shaped generations of Filipinos.

Through vibrant colors, rich textures, symbols and forms, the artists revisit the landscapes of their origins, transforming memories into artworks that resonate not only with Filipinos but also with audiences around the world.

According to Crowne Plaza Digital Marketing Manager Vianney Antonio, each piece reflects the artists' interpretation of the Filipino experience—one rooted in heritage yet constantly evolving.

More than an art display, the collection serves as a living repository of stories, identities and cultural expressions that continue to define the nation.

Fresh from successful exhibitions in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France, the participating artists—Ada Panopio, Jerwind Magnaye, Windsor Magnaye, Ruby Bagsit, Doy Kastilyo and Yelcast—returned home with a body of work that celebrates the simplicity of everyday life, the richness of local traditions, the strength of faith and the enduring spirit of community.

Their international exhibitions demonstrated that while these stories are distinctly Filipino, they resonate with audiences far beyond the country's shores.

Among the featured artists, Yelcast, recently named a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of the East, represented the Philippines at the Florence Biennale before exhibiting in Morocco and South Africa.

Windsor Magnaye also earned recognition in a juried exhibition in Paris, underscoring the growing international acclaim for contemporary Filipino artists.

For Antonio, the exhibition affirms that art is far more than an object of admiration.

It serves as a bridge between cultures, fostering education, dialogue and mutual understanding. Crowne Plaza's partnership with the artists of Arte Bauan reflects the hotel's commitment to promoting Filipino creativity while providing a platform for local artists to engage with a global audience.

The exhibition also forms part of Robinsons Land's ARTablado initiative, through which its hotels showcase Filipino artists and diverse art forms across the country.

By supporting local talents who have gained international recognition, Robinsons Land reinforces the richness, relevance and global appeal of Philippine creativity while nurturing pride in the nation's cultural heritage.

The exhibition's opening reflected the spirit of Gunita. Guests watched as the artists created paintings before a live audience while musical performances filled the venue.

After the second musical number, the completed canvases were unveiled simultaneously, revealing works that beautifully embodied the exhibition's central themes of memory, identity and shared heritage.

More than an art exhibition, Gunita is an invitation to remember that every brushstroke carries a fragment of the Filipino story.

Through the achievements and artistic journeys of these artists, the exhibit reminds future generations that culture is not merely inherited—it is continually created, shared and passed on, one canvas at a time.
