DeepMind UK Staff Plan To Unionize Over Deals With Israel

Staff at Google DeepMind in Britain are planning to unionize to challenge the company's sale of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to defense groups linked to the Israeli government, the Financial Times reported, according to Angela Christy for Reuters.

Around 300 London-based DeepMind employees have been seeking to join the Communication Workers Union (CWU) in recent weeks, the report said. Media reports about Google selling cloud services and AI technology to Israel’s Ministry of Defense have caused unease among employees.
This follows a controversy last year when Google fired 28 workers who protested against its cloud contracts with the Israeli government.
