Delays Mar Voting as Peru Seeks Stability

Voting delays disrupted elections in Peru on Sunday, as citizens sought to end a decade of political instability that has seen multiple presidents removed, jailed, or forced from office.

Around 27 million voters were expected to cast ballots using unusually long papers listing dozens of candidates. The race includes a diverse field, from a conservative comedian to the daughter of an imprisoned former leader.

Delays of up to four hours were reported at polling centers, including 75 locations in metropolitan Lima. Officials blamed a subcontractor for failing to deliver voting materials on time and extended polling hours in response.
