Senator Dianne Feinstein, a vocal advocate for gun control measures and known for her efforts to find common ground with Republicans during her three-decade tenure in the Senate, has passed away.

Her office confirmed the news on Friday, September 29, 2023, as reported by Rebecca Shabad, Dareh Gregorian, Kelly O'Donnell, and Frank Thorp V for NBC News.

In February, she announced her plans to retire at the end of 2024, coinciding with the conclusion of her term. Her decision to retire had come amid concerns about her health, as reported by the LA Times and the Associated Press (AP).
President Joe Biden praised Feinstein's contributions, stating, "Dianne made her mark on everything from national security to the environment to protecting civil liberties. She’s made history in so many ways, and our country will benefit from her legacy for generations."
