US President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has disbanded with eight months left to its mandate, ending an initiative launched with fanfare as a symbol of Trump’s pledge to slash the government’s size, Courtney Rozen reported for Reuters.

Elon Musk initially led DOGE, which was roundly condemned for firing thousands of federal employees under the pretext that the bureaucracy was bloated and government institutions were inefficient.
To dramatize the “success” of his campaign, Musk claimed he would save trillions from the federal budget by cutting jobs and abolishing offices.
It later emerged that these claims were overstated, as DOGE failed to deliver substantial results. Investigators now concede that only a handful of measurable savings were achieved.
