Tyson Foods, the largest US meat producer, had previously announced the closure of four chicken plants, including the one in Missouri, in an effort to cut costs amid declining demand for its products.
Cal-Maine plans to convert the acquired broiler processing facility into an egg-grading facility initially, expecting to make additional investments and create new jobs.
The company did not disclose the financial terms of the deal but mentioned its intent to enter agreements with some of Tyson's former contract farmers to support its egg production.
The transaction is expected to be finalized in Cal-Maine's third fiscal quarter.
