Equinix, Inc., the global leader in digital infrastructure, is set to make a significant entry into the Philippines by acquiring three high-performance data centers from Total Information Management (TIM), a top tech solutions provider.

Currently, Equinix operates 260 data centers across 71 cities in 33 countries, with 56 of these centers in major Asia-Pacific cities.

This move follows Equinix’s recent expansions in Malaysia and Indonesia, highlighting Southeast Asia's growing importance as a digital hub. The all-cash deal, expected to close in the second half of 2024, aims to help businesses in the Philippines and beyond tap into the booming digital market.

"We are excited to expand into the Philippines, a dynamic and rapidly growing digital economy with vast opportunities for our customers and partners," said Jeremy Deutsch, President of Equinix Asia-Pacific.

"This strategic acquisition, along with our recent growth in Malaysia and Indonesia, will greatly enhance our presence in the region. It will help our customers thrive and embrace digital transformation, using emerging technologies like private AI."

Jose Mari M. Antunez, Chairman of TIM, added, "Equinix's strong reputation and expertise make them the perfect partner to elevate our data center business. While TIM will continue to support our customers’ digital transformation strategies, this deal will offer immense benefits. Equinix's global platform and extensive network will provide better connectivity, scalability, and access to a thriving ecosystem of partners."

This acquisition will significantly boost Equinix’s capacity to meet the digital needs of businesses both locally and internationally. Companies will be able to connect and share data securely through Equinix's extensive global network.

Current TIM customers, including network and financial services firms, will gain access to Equinix's worldwide ecosystem of over 10,000 companies.

Southeast Asia's digital economy was valued at $218 billion in 2023, with the Philippines expected to grow its digital economy to $35 billion by 2025. This growth is driven by a tech-savvy population, the rise of online shopping, and government initiatives promoting digitalization.

The three data centers, which are designed to support extensive data traffic and interconnections, have more than 1,000 cabinets of capacity and room for expansion.

Equinix’s aggressive investment plans in Asia-Pacific include new data centers in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Chennai, India, later this year. These expansions will reinforce Equinix’s leadership in the region, helping businesses enter new markets.

Currently, Equinix operates 260 data centers across 71 cities in 33 countries, with 56 of these centers in major Asia-Pacific cities.
