This included reports that FBI personnel were instructed to "flag" any records that mentioned President Donald Trump, Nnamdi Egwuonwu reported for NBC News.

In a series of oversight letters sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Durbin raised concerns about inconsistencies in public statements and internal conflicts within the Trump administration surrounding the high-profile case.

Durbin questioned Bondi about “contradictions” in her public comments, Patel about reports that he was “pressured” by Bondi to assign 1,000 personnel to 24-hour shifts to review approximately 100,000 Epstein-related records, and Bongino about internal disputes over the administration’s lack of transparency.

“My office was told that these personnel were instructed to ‘flag’ any records in which President Trump was mentioned,” Durbin wrote in recently sent letters.

“Why were personnel told to flag records mentioning President Trump? What happened to those records once they were flagged?” Durbin, who serves as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has demanded responses from all three officials.
