In a major step toward transforming the country's mass transportation system, Filinvest Land Inc. (FLI) has officially turned over a prime 6,000-square-meter property in Bicutan to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The strategic land turnover paves the way for the construction of the highly anticipated Bicutan Station, a key component of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project.

The station is designed to serve as a major transit hub that will integrate two of the national government's flagship infrastructure projects—the 147-kilometer NSCR and the Metro Manila Subway Project.

Through an innovative unidirectional track-sharing design, Metro Manila Subway trains will be able to operate along the NSCR line, creating a continuous rail connection from Clark to Calamba while improving access throughout Metro Manila.

Alongside the property turnover, FLI also announced plans to develop the Filinvest Pedestrian Link, a direct-access infrastructure that will connect its 6.5-hectare property and future developments to the station.

The project includes an elevated pedestrian bridge crossing the East Service Road and a continuous covered walkway at ground level.

The covered pedestrian network will extend from the elevated bridge to the station's multimodal transport pickup and drop-off area, providing commuters with a safe, weather-protected, and convenient route to the station's entrances and exits.

The project reflects FLI's commitment to supporting public infrastructure through partnerships with the national government.

By helping develop the NSCR system, the company aims to improve connectivity between residential communities, commercial centers, and employment hubs.

"We believe that a progressive economy relies heavily on robust infrastructure," said Tristan Las Marias, FLI president and chief executive officer.

"Our partnership with the DOTr for the Bicutan Station, which will be adjacent to one of our prime properties, is a testament to Filinvest Land's commitment to building the Filipino dream by providing efficient and convenient transportation connections to potential urban growth centers and nearby residential areas.

"By dedicating this land and developing the Filinvest Pedestrian Link, we are helping build a more connected nation where citizens can travel safely, efficiently, and with dignity," he added.

Construction of the 5.8-kilometer elevated railway segment, which includes the Bicutan and Sucat stations, is targeted for completion in 2031.

According to FLI, the project is expected to generate about 350,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and eventual system-wide operations, which are projected to begin in 2033.

Employment opportunities are expected in engineering, construction, railway operations, maintenance, and businesses along the transit corridor.

The integrated rail network is projected to serve about one million passengers daily, significantly reducing travel times across Metro Manila and neighboring provinces by allowing seamless transfers between the Metro Manila Subway and the NSCR's commuter and limited express services.

The Filinvest Pedestrian Link is also intended to improve the commuting experience by providing a fully covered, weather-protected connection between public transport facilities and the railway station.

The property turnover marks another milestone in the development of the country's integrated rail network and supports the government's goal of building a modern mass transit system.
