Both companies recently announced major acquisitions to accelerate their international ambitions, Fortune Tech reported.
DoorDash will acquire U.K.-based Deliveroo for $3.9 billion, expanding its footprint across Europe and the Middle East. In 2022, DoorDash had already acquired Finnish delivery company Wolt for $8.1 billion, further cementing its reach in Europe.
Also, though in an unrelated move, DoorDash agreed to pay $1.2 billion for U.S.-based SevenRooms, a developer of marketing and operations software for restaurants and hotels.
The acquisition signals DoorDash’s push beyond food delivery into broader hospitality tech.
Meanwhile, Uber acquired an 85% stake in Turkey-based food delivery service Trendyol Go for $700 million. The deal instantly gives Uber Eats a presence in Turkey, where previously it had only operated its ride-hailing business.
