Russia’s Gazprom PJSC has halted natural gas supplies through Ukraine after its five-year transit agreement expired recently, Bloomberg News reported on the same day.

“Due to the repeated and explicit refusal of the Ukrainian side to extend these agreements, Gazprom was deprived of the technical and legal opportunity to supply gas for transit through the territory of Ukraine starting Jan. 1, 2025,” the Russian gas producer stated in a Telegram post.

Several countries depend on the Ukrainian pipeline for Gazprom’s gas supplies, even as Russia has faced criticism for raising prices and sparking disputes with other nations. In response, Ukraine has begun securing gas supplies from the U.S. and other international sources to compensate for the disruption.
