California's current policy mandates that 35% of new vehicles sold must be EVs or plug-in hybrids by 2026, with a complete phaseout of gasoline-only vehicles by 2035.
Eleven other states are aligned with California’s model. However, actual EV penetration remains well below the state’s targets, raising questions about feasibility.
In an email to Barron’s, GM said it remains committed to offering “the best and broadest portfolio of vehicles” and emphasized its long-standing support for consistent emissions regulations.
