The first phase of layoffs will begin on November 18, involving the temporary layoff of 686 full-time workers and the termination of 250 temporary employees, Automotive News reported Saturday, citing a company filing to the state of Kansas.
A second round of temporary layoffs for 759 full-time employees is scheduled to begin on January 12, 2025.
In May, GM had announced that production of the Cadillac XT4 would be paused in Kansas after January 2025, leading to layoffs until production resumes later in the year for both the Bolt EV and the XT4 on the same assembly line.
Additionally, in August, the company announced it was laying off over 1,000 salaried employees in its software and service units worldwide, according to CNN.
