Emails made public showed Ruemmler describing Epstein as an “older brother” and downplaying his sex crimes. In earlier correspondence, she referred to him as “Uncle Jeffrey” and wrote that she adored him.

Ruemmler said she will step down from her post effective June 30, 2026.

Until announcing her resignation, she had resisted calls to leave and sought to distance herself from the emails, maintaining she would not step down from the position she had held since 2020.

In more recent statements, Ruemmler described Epstein as a “monster.” A Goldman Sachs spokesperson previously said she “regrets ever knowing him.”

Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges and later died in a Manhattan jail while awaiting trial.
