BBC News recently reported that a post on X (formerly Twitter) falsely claimed that Gmail would be closing in August and garnered over seven million views. In response to the misinformation, Google took to the same platform to assert that Gmail is “here to stay.”


This incident underscores the dangers of misinformation, with Richard Bagnall, CEO of communications evaluation firm CARMA, highlighting the challenge of verifying facts online amid a lack of tools and processes to combat misinformation.
