Google Unveils its $1,799 Pixel 10 Pro Fold

A foldable phone you can take poolside? Google recently unveiled the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, its latest flagship, boasting an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

How durable is that?

Other devices with the same rating include outdoor holiday lighting, sport headphones, and top-tier smartphones from Apple and Samsung. Translation: fine in the rain, not fit for deep-sea adventures.

Still, it’s a notable feat for a foldable, given the challenge of protecting hinges and moving parts from elements as small—but destructive—as a grain of sand.

Tech giants are racing into the foldable category.

Samsung debuted its first foldable Galaxy back in 2019 and is now rumored to be developing both a Galaxy Z Tab and a tri-fold phone. Apple, for its part, has long been rumored to be working on foldable versions of the iPhone and iPad, though Cupertino remains silent.
