During the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City, Task Force El Niño spokesperson and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Assistant Secretary Joey Villarama revealed that 41 provinces are currently affected by the weather phenomenon.
Among these, 17 provinces are experiencing dry conditions, 10 are under a dry spell, and 14 are facing drought, he added. Villarama mentioned that 10 more provinces may be added to this list before March.
He also noted that in Western Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula alone, the government has already monitored PHP 151 million worth of losses in rice and corn.
Additionally, Villarama shared that the Department of Health is monitoring water-borne and vector-driven diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, dengue, and chikungunya, although there have been no outbreaks of these diseases reported.
