Greta Thunberg has accused Israel of kidnapping her and fellow pro-Palestinian activists in international waters, after being deported from the country.

The 22-year-old Swedish climate activist said she refused to sign documents stating she had entered Israel illegally, Reuters reported. Speaking at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, Thunberg insisted her group broke no laws and demanded the immediate release of other activists still in Israeli custody.

“I was very clear in my testimony that we were kidnapped on international waters and brought against our own will into Israel,” she said.

Thunberg dismissed criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, who called her an “angry person.” “I think the world needs a lot more young angry women, to be honest — especially with everything going on right now,” she replied.

The Israeli Navy intercepted the activists’ boat early Monday as it approached Gaza, which remains under a longstanding naval blockade.

The 12-person crew, including Thunberg, was detained after attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to the enclave.

Thunberg denied the operation was a publicity stunt, referencing a prior, larger aid effort that ended when the vessel was bombed, according to Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA).
