Hackers were briefly able to exploit Meta’s AI support system to take control of Instagram accounts by manipulating account recovery requests, according to a security report, as relayed by FortuneTech.

The incident comes after Meta announced plans to expand AI-powered support tools across Facebook and Instagram.

The vulnerability reportedly allowed attackers to prompt Meta’s automated support tools to change the email addresses linked to targeted accounts, bypassing normal security protections in some cases.

A report cited by 404 Media said attackers shared instructions in online groups, demonstrating how automated account support could be abused when systems lacked sufficient human verification.

Meta has since patched the issue.
