US Vice President Kamala Harris stated that US Steel should remain in domestic hands as she intensified outreach efforts to voters, especially in key battleground states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada, The Telegraph reported.
Harris’ stance aligns with that of President Joe Biden, who in March stated that US Steel, which has agreed to a $14.9-billion acquisition by Japan’s Nippon Steel, should remain an American-owned company. I Photo: U.S. Steel
Harris, who has replaced Joe Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket, used her Labor Day speech in Pittsburgh to reaffirm her support for steel workers, according to a campaign aide.
“The vice president will emphasize that US Steel should stay domestically owned and operated and underscore her commitment to supporting US steelworkers,” the aide said.

This comes as Nippon Steel pushes for the Japanese government to impose anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese steel imports.
Takahiro Mori, Nippon’s executive vice-president, told Bloomberg that numerous other countries, including in Europe, the US, and South Korea, have introduced such protections, which could lead to an influx of exports into Japan if it remains unprotected.
