Fashion house Hermes is facing a lawsuit in California over allegations that it refuses to sell coveted Birkin handbags to customers unless they purchase other luxury products first.

Plaintiffs argue that they were told by Hermes sales associates that specialty bags are reserved for clients who consistently support the business. The lawsuit highlights the exclusivity and luxury associated with the Birkin bag, with prices ranging from $10,000 to over $1 million.
