Hongkong Post will suspend shipments of small parcels to the United States after Washington announced it would revoke a long-standing duty-free exemption on low-value goods, starting May 2, the Hong Kong government said.

Previously, items valued under $800 could enter the U.S. tariff-free under the “de minimis” rule. But under the new measure, the U.S. will impose a 120% tariff on small parcels from Hong Kong, part of a broader effort to curb imports from China and its territories.
The Hong Kong government criticized the U.S. move as “unreasonable and bullying,” and said it would not collect U.S. tariffs on its behalf. Airmail shipments containing goods will be accepted only until April 27, while document-only mail remains unaffected.
