Republican leaders in the US House of Representatives unexpectedly canceled a vote on a resolution seeking to end US military action involving Iran unless President Donald Trump obtained congressional authorization, Reuters reported.

The vote had been scheduled just before lawmakers left for Memorial Day recess. The House had previously blocked similar war powers resolutions, though margins had narrowed in recent votes as some Republicans broke ranks.
Democrats and some Republicans argued that Congress must authorize sustained military action under the Constitution.
Republican leaders reportedly delayed the vote until after the recess, while the White House maintained that the president’s actions were within his authority as commander-in-chief.
