This new terminal marks the largest privately-funded marine terminal investment in the country’s history and will rank as the second-largest container facility following the Manila International Container Terminal in the Port of Manila.
The terminal is slated to provide a capacity of over two million TEUs, with an estimated total investment of US$800 million.
The initial two phases of the terminal will include a 900-meter quay and at least eight ship-to-shore gantry cranes. With design and engineering studies progressing, ICTSI plans to commence construction of Phase 1 in the first quarter of 2025, followed by Phase 2 as per demand.
The first berth is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, positioning the terminal as a key driver of economic growth in Southern Luzon, generating employment opportunities and expediting regional development.
Moreover, the terminal is expected to support the marine handling requirements essential for the country’s renewable energy transition strategy in Southern Luzon.
Strategically situated 120 kilometers south of Manila and nine kilometers west of Batangas City, the Bauan facility will serve as the primary international gateway for shippers in the CALABARZON region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), and emerge as the most advanced container terminal nationwide.
Nestled within a natural cove, Bauan is a first-class municipality in Batangas province recognized for its robust agro-industrial sector.
The facility will enable ICTSI to effectively manage capacity demands across the Metro Manila consumption center and CALABARZON through the combined operations of the new Bauan terminal and the Manila International Container Terminal.
