Indonesia To Ink $34-B Trade Pact With U.S. Ahead Of Tariff Deal Deadline

Indonesia plans to sign a $34 billion deal with U.S. businesses next week to boost purchases and help secure a trade agreement ahead of the July 9 deadline, its top economic minister said, Jenny McCall reported for Yahoo Finance.

According to Reuters, “Jakarta is facing a 32% tariff in U.S. markets and has previously offered to increase U.S. imports to facilitate trade talks between the two sides.” Indonesia recorded a goods trade surplus of $17.9 billion with the U.S. in 2024, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
Speaking to journalists, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the memorandum of understanding (MOU), scheduled to be signed on July 7, will allocate the $34 billion for new Indonesian investments and purchases in the U.S.
