Geopolitical tensions are reminding investors of the risks of overseas markets, but a prolonged Middle East conflict could also present buying opportunities in emerging-market stocks, Sabrina Escobar reported for Barron’s Daily.

Emerging markets began the year strongly, with the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF gaining 16% through Feb. 25, the night of President Trump’s State of the Union address. Since then, the fund has fallen 12%.
The decline reflects growing concerns about the economic impact of a prolonged conflict with Iran. If the situation persists, markets may face continued volatility, though some investors see potential value in beaten-down assets.
