Iran delivered two major developments on Saturday that further strained an interim agreement with the United States, according to Kareem Chehayeb and Bassem Mroue reporting for The Associated Press (AP).

First, Iran’s joint military command announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing continued Israeli attacks in Lebanon and alleging U.S. violations of commitments. State media warned that further escalation would follow if attacks continued.
Shortly afterward, Iranian state television confirmed that the country’s negotiating team was traveling to Switzerland for talks that had previously been delayed.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghai indicated that progress in negotiations would depend on whether the United States complies with existing commitments, particularly regarding the conflict in Lebanon.
He added that talks toward a final agreement would only begin once key conditions are met, warning that the broader memorandum of understanding could collapse if obligations are not fulfilled.
