Iran’s president said that the ongoing U.S. naval blockade targeting Iranian ports and vessels is “doomed to fail,” challenging President Donald Trump’s claims that economic pressure will force Tehran to accept a deal to end the conflict on U.S. terms, CBS News and the Associated Press (AP) reported.

“Any attempt to impose a maritime blockade or restrictions is contrary to international law … and is doomed to fail,” President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a statement.
He warned that measures initiated on April 13 would disrupt long-term stability in the Persian Gulf.
Iran is also working to build new warships to replace vessels reportedly destroyed in recent U.S. and Israeli strikes, according to Iranian Navy Commander Admiral Shahram Irani.
His remarks, carried by Iranian state television, come about seven weeks after an Iranian frigate, IRIS Dena, was reportedly destroyed in an incident in the Indian Ocean, with state media reporting up to 80 casualties.
